Elks of the Months 2024
Congratulations to Doreen Thuotte Allen, our January Elk of the Month!!! Doreen is a new member, but has not hesitated to step up and volunteer!! Doreen was a huge help with our Halloween event. She volunteered to stand out in the cold, handing out candy to the kids.Thank you, Doreen!!
Congratulations to Teresa Fields, our February Elk of the Month!! Since becoming a member, just a little over a year ago, Teresa has stepped up to help our lodge by accepting the position as the Lodge Tiler. She didn't stop there, when we were inn need of a "fill in bartender", Teresa stepped up again. She is now one of our regular weekend bartenders. Teresa is very enthusiastic, always smiling and courteous to everyone!! Teresa is always trying to come up with ideas to bring our members in. She comes up with a "Drink of the Day" on a slow Saturday! When you see Teresa, make sure you congratulate her!!!
March Elk of the Month: Congratulations to Sally Miller our March Elk of the Month, for her support for our lodge and its members over the past year. From successfully organizing fundraisers like the November bake sale, which raised $500 for the Thermal Shelter of Front Royal, to playing a pivotal role in supporting the Spring State Elks convention hospitality suite for the North District, Sally's contributions have been made an impact. Her thoughtful gestures, such as bringing snacks for our last trivia night, showcase her commitment to our members. We appreciate Sally's support, which truly embody the spirit of charity and brotherly love that defines our Elk family.
Thank you, Sally Doyle Miller, for all you do!
Congratulations to Kara Lynne Moreau our April Elk of the month!!! In Kara's 4 years as a member, she participates in many ways. She heads the membership committee and does a great job with new members, meeting and greeting them, showing them the lodge and helping thru the initiationprocess. She has sponsored many new members this Elk Year.
Kara is a huge help to our HC Chairperson and our bar staff. Kara helps with training of new bartenders. She does the weekly inventory of supplies and the shopping at Sams club. She takes home the bar laundry and washes it, all voluntary and without being asked. Kara sees something that needs done and she makes it happen.
Kara donated a new 65" smart TV to the lodge. She purchased and raffled Elks cups for the entertainment fund. Kara meets the delivery and repair people when others can't be there. Thank you for all you do!
Congratulations to Larry Stokely, our May Elk of the Month!! Larry has been a member for 29 years! Some of you probably do not know, Larry Stokely is responsible for A LOT of the construction work that has taken place inside of our lodge. The counter top in the Social Quarters and the counter to that WAS in the breakfast room, Larry built those. He came up with that idea to best utilize the space given that the columns could not be removed. So, as you can imagine, it was hard for Larry to go and break down the one that was in the breakfast room.
Larry is also for putting in the wheel chair ramp in the breakfast room. Ricky Wrenn is now able to go in the breakfast room to use the gaming machines!
Larry is a very selfless man. At the end of his hard work day, he has helped some of our members with their home renovations. It never fails, when Larry comes in to unwind and relax, someone approaches him regarding a project that they would like to do at their homes. We all appreciate Larry and all of his hard work that he puts in during the day!!
When you see Larry, please congratulate him as this is well deserved!
Congratulations to Joe Kiser, our June Elk of the Month
July Elk of the Month is Judy Kerns
Congratulations to Albert Cervantes, our August Elk of the Month!! Albert Cervantes came to us from the Arlington/Fairfax lodge a couple of years ago. Although Albert's schedule does not permit him to be at the lodge as often as most, Albert has stepped up en help was needed. Albert helped Pete Boyers & Steven Forsht with the Membership Appreciation Crab Feast. He helped serve, clean up after. Albert also helped Mike & Dawn Maroney power wash the smoking room.
Albert has a very BIG personality, so, when we needed someone to work weekends, behind the bar, Albert volunteered. He learned the process , real quick and has been a HUGE help.
If you have not, yet, met Albert, please stop by on the weekends and say "HELLO!"
Thank you, Albert and congratulations!!
Congratulations to Cindy Reyes Cortner, our September Elk of the Month!! Cindy was on a "hiatus" from cooking Mexican Dinners for our lodge because of her willingness to help others. Cindy had fallen and broke her shoulder while helping a neighbor shovel last winter. This had put Cindy out of commission for a while. Now, she is back and as strong as ever. She stepped up and helped Mike Whalen by doing the Friday Night Dinner for a couple of weeks. During that time, not only did Cindy cook our regular, short order menu, but she made specials as well.
Cindy likes to keep herself busy by volunteering her time to the Elks by running the Hoop Shoot and our Youth Committee. She also volunteers at the USO and the VFW Auxiliary. When it comes to fund raisers, Cindy is one of the first people to step up to assist those in need. She has been collecting donations for the Martinsburg, WV, VA Baby Shower. She has collected donations for "Sweats for Vets" during the holiday season and has volunteered time with "Cook for Vets". Cindy has also been responsible for cleaning up the mulch beds at our lodge.
Cindy is definitely a "selfless" person and deserves the Elk of the Month for her ongoing passion for volunteering! After all, that is what the Elks are about.
Thank you Cindy, for always going above and beyond and always having a positive attitude!!
We are proud to recognize Tim Miscovich as our October Elk of the Month! Tim’s dedication and hard work have made a significant impact on our community, particularly through his support of the Welcome Home Project and efforts to assist our veterans.
Tim has gone above and beyond, coordinating and running deliveries to the Dulles USO, ensuring our service members are cared for and supported. Additionally, Tim played a crucial role in getting our trailer tags up to date and making them street legal—a task that ensures our continued ability to serve the community effectively.
Thank you, Tim, for your tireless commitment and selfless contributions. Your efforts truly embody the spirit of Elkdom and inspire us all!
A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes out to our November Elk of the Month: Collin Okoniewski!! Since being initiated in January of 2024, Collin has not been shy to step up and volunteer. Collin is part of our House Committee, Membership Committee and was an integral part of our yearly Scholarship Golf Tournament!
Collin also took the initiative to do a "write up" on the FaceBook Group Page, Drink NoVa. By talking about what our lodge does for our community, Collin received messages from some folks who were interested in joining. From that post we initiated 4 new members. Thank you and way to go Collin!
Collin has also found ways to raise funds for some of our committees by creating and managing the Monday Night Football 50/50 squares!!
For those of you who have not met Collin, you are missing out. Here is some things to know about Collin. Besides being our tallest member, Collin is happily married to Anderson Okoniewski, who's father is an Elk in the Canajoharie - Fort Plain Elks Lodge in Nelliston, NY. Collin and Anderson have the most precious little boy, Briggs. Briggs is our Honorary Elk Calf.
Collin, we thank you for all you do and Congratulations!!
Congratulations to Pete Boyers, our December Elk of the Month!! Since becoming a member, approximately 8 years ago, Pete has been a non-stop, active volunteer. Pete has been mowing the grass & cutting back the shrubs, since Covid. He has saved the lodge money by taking on this responsibility. Pete takes pride with the lodge grounds. Pete is part of our House Committee and when the House Committee was tasked with coming up with an event and executing it, Pete's event was the Memorial Day Crab Fest which had a great turn out! Pete is always coming up with ideas on how to raise money for our committees !! Monday Night Football, Pete has been cooking, Donations Only, for the folks who come up to watch the games and all donations have been going to the committee the 50/50 Football Squares goes to. Christmas is one of Pete's favorite times of the year. For the last couple of years, he has been sharing his joy for Christmas, by putting up Christmas lights out side and has purchased 2 Christmas trees for inside. Pete, the lodge thanks you for all you do!! In your own words, "It takes a lodge", but sometimes it takes someone to take the initiative and you definitely do just that!!
Thank you Pete Boyers!
