Elks of the Months 2023

Congratulations to our January Elk of the Month: Ginger Young! Ginger always goes above and beyond to ensure our members have food to eat, at the lodge, on the weekends. Ginger stepped up and cooked dinner for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Ginger is part of the Membership Committee and cooks for all of our Initiation dinners!Ginger also went above and beyond and bought some toys for a family,  in need, for Christmas. Thank you, Ginger, for all you do!

Congrats to our February Elk of the Month: Scott Hammond

Scott Hammond, initiated October 26th,

with the Halloween trick or treat event, both Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, and volunteered for the Welcome Home project. He has embraced what it means to be an Elk. Thanks Scott

We would like to congratulate our March Elk of the Month Steve Rogers.

Steve jumped right in helping with USO Deliveries, welcome home moves and furniture pickups, and is readily available to jump in and help when needed. He always asks how he can help, when he is at the lodge, and sees other members working. Thank you for all you do!

We would like to congratulate Lois as our April Elk of the Month! has been a member for 6 years. Some of you may not know her, but when it comes to veterans she is always there. She currently volunteers with the USO in their lounge, and is a greeter for the honor flights. Lois has also helped a lot with welcome home. She volunteered her time to help on just about every move this last year. It’s members like Lois that help make an impact and we are so grateful she is part of our Elk family. Lois was also just named the April Volunteer of the Month at the USO! If you see her, please make sure you congratulate her

A huge congratulations goes out to Cindy Cortner, our June Elk of the Month!

Cindy has been a member of our lodge for approximately 8 years. Cindy is one of our PERs and her "non-stop" willing to volunteer is amazing. For those of you who do not know this, Cindy recently retired from the Federal Government and spends a lot of time traveling, volunteering at the Dulles USO, VFW Auxiliary, cleaning up our grounds, and cooking for our lodge, whether it is for Taco Tuesday, Friday night dinner specials and let's not forget the awesome Cinco de Mayo dinner! In addition to all of this, Cindy recently became a crossing guard in Loudoun County! Cindy's "Can Do" attitude is inspiring! She comes up with activities to get our members engaged with one another,  Most recently, Cindy came up with the idea of "Member Appreciation" week where you would write a member's name on a star, but not just any member, but a member who you felt went above and beyond being a volunteer. All of the stars were collected and hung up, in the lodge, for a couple of weeks in May!! Our members came together and showed appreciation for one another. Thank you, Cindy, for this and everything you do! This is what it means when you hear the phrase, "Elks Do!"

Congratulations, Cindy Reyes!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS, goes out to our May Elk of the Month, Ron Marrs!! Ron has been a member of Loudoun Elks #2406 for 27 years!! As some may know, Ron is a Master Plumber and with that comes helping with plumbing problems at the lodge. Recently, Ron volunteered to help fix the leak with the ice machine in the kitchen. Ron, didn't stop there, he has been listening to our bartenders complain about the ice machine, behind the bar, so he fixed the leak that one had as well. Ron has saved the lodge, alot of money, by fixing these problems. I'm sure Ron does not want this out there, but he has also helped some of our members with their plumbing problems. When you see Ron, shake his hand and thank him for all he does for our lodge and our members!

When we think of Elk of the Month, we think of someone who consistently goes above and beyond! Someone who consistently helps any time help is needed. Our July Elk of the Month is someone who is always eager to help even when he is told his help is not needed. Our July Elk of the Month is a man who has been a member for many years and was a board member for alot of those years so he was not eligible for Elk of the Month. He served as an Officer, a trustee and more recently, he served as our Exaulted Ruler, Mr. Mike Whalen! Mike spends a lot of his time at our lodge cooking on Friday nights, taking out the trash for the night bartenders, deep cleaning the kitchen, which is NOT an easy job. Mike has helped with the Honor Flights dinner and clean up, USO food deliveries, Food Basket shopping and prep, Veteran furniture deliveries and or pick-ups. He has also served as an Uber driver for some of our members, assisted with set up and tear down of the yearly yard sales. Mike has taken members to doctor appointments or has picked them up for appointments, always greets visitors, new members and or visiting members. Mike's help doesn't stop at just happenings in the lodge. Mike has dedicated alot of his spare time help Dieter Schneider get his home ready for sale. As you can see, this list is long. This award has been in the works for some time now, so take a moment, buy this man the worst beer at the bar, a PBR, and thank him for all he does! Mike is very dedicated to our lodge! Thank you, Mike Whalen for all you do! Just one request, please do NOT touch the TV remotes! Inside joke! Congratulations Mike!!!

Congratulations to our August Elk of the Month, Mr. Tim Miscovich! Tim is a retired Fairfax County Firefighter, so he is no stranger to helping out the community. When I was giving Tim a tour of our lodge, prior to his interview, he had told me he had just retired and was going to spend some time travelling and also wanted to give back to his community! So, he found our lodge and we wELKomed him to our family. Tim was initiated on Feb 22, 2023, but prior to his actual initiation ceremony, Tim had volunteered with USO and some Welcome Home moves. Since becoming an Elk, he has continued to help with USO runs and Welcome Home moves/pick-ups. Tim never hesitated to roll up his sleeves and help when help was needed!

One day, Tim was having a discussion with Pete Boyers, regarding the landscaping, well, Tim offered to help Pete with the maintenance of the grounds and has spent a lot of time pulling weeds, cleaning up the bushes and flower beds in the front & side  of our lodge. We thank Tim for becoming a part of our family and his continued efforts of giving back to the community.

Tim, from all of us here at Loudoun Elks Lodge # 2406, Thank you for everything and congratulations!

Congratulations to our Elk of the Month for September, Patsy Schierlmann!

Patsy has been a member of the lodge for eight years. She is the Americanism Chair as well as the co-chair for the annual scholarship golf tournament. Throughout her tenure as the Americanism Chair, she has worked tirelessly with local schools each year during the annual essay contest. Her relationship with the schools, teachers and students have led to Loudoun contestants receiving high accolades in the contest several years running, outperforming most lodges in the state. She also works with the same schools during scholarship season. In May of this year, one of Patsy’s former essay contestants was selected as a finalist in the Elks National Scholarship Program. Rashmi Admala was selected as one of 20 finalists out of 22,000 applicants to receive the Most Valuable Student scholarship. Rashmi went on to win a $20,000 scholarship. As co-chair of the annual golf tournament, Patsy is integral in raising money for local Loudoun students. This year alone, $9,000 in scholarships have been awarded to local students in Loudoun.  Patsy completes her duties in the background with many members not realizing the extent of her service to the lodge and the children and families in Loudoun. We would like to thank Patsy for her never ending dedication to the Americanism and Scholarship programs and congratulate her once again on her selection as Elk of the Month.

The Loudoun Elks Lodge would like to congratulate Gerard Oswald, our October Elk of the Month! Gerard Oswald.  Gerard is originally from Pottsville, PA and has been a member since 2021. In his spare time, Gerard I'd the football coach at Potomac Falls High School. Gerard has not only stepped up to help Kathee Cassedy with Veterans moves but Gerard brought help! He brought some of the high school football team to assist! We thank Gerard for not only supporting his lodge but for the time he spends with these young athletes of Potomac Falls High School! Congratulations to Gerard Oswald!

Congratulations to our November Elk of the Month: Rory Tetreault! Rory has been a member for several years and has been a huge part of our Honor Flights as she has done alot of the cooking, serving and clean up! Her macaroni and cheese is awesome! Rory also cooks, serves and cleans up for other Special Events upstairs.

For those of you who have one of our Lodge Pins, she and Matt designed those pins! Rory is what being a "Great Elk" and an "Active Elk" is all about!

We thank you, Rory, for all you do for our lodge and for our Veterans!  CONGRATULATIONS!!

Let's all congratulate Michelle Truman, our December Elk of the Month! Michelle took over the responsibilities of the food baskets. This year we are doing something different. Michelle is working with the Tree of Life Ministries, delivering food to local food banks. In Oct, Michelle delivered 263 lbs of food and another 446lbs in November! Thank you, Michelle for all you do!
