Elks of the months

January 2022 Larry Stokely Elk of the Month! Larry has been a member of our Lodge for 26 years and he definitely embodies, "It Takes a Lodge!" By day, Larry works construction/remodeling and on his own time he replaced the flooring in the front foyer of our Lodge and stairwell. He did a beautiful job! Also, Larry delivered Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to members who were ill and not able to come to the Lodge. We thank Larry for all of his selfless actions to ensure our Lodge is beautiful! Thank you, Larry!

February 2022 Pete Boyers, our February Elk of the Month! Pete is another very selfless person and spends his Thursday nights cooking for our Thankful Thursdays! Pete is a "jack of all trades", he played DJ for our New Years Eve party and made sure everyone had a great time! Pete also took time out of his busy work day to take one of our members to a doctor appointment.  Pete came up with the phrase, " It takes a lodge". It definitely does! We thank Pete for everything he continues to do, selflessly, for our lodge!

March 2022 Steven Forsht our March Elk of the month. Steven, on his spare time, volunteered to help with the upgrades to our front foyer and the renovations to the upstairs flag room. Steven has also been a major help with putting together food baskets! It takes members, like Steven, to make a difference! Thank you, Steven!

April 2022 Don Cortner, our April Elk of the Month! By day, Don is a quiet, gamer and walk loving person. But when the sun goes down, the wild man appears and not how you think! He cooks and cleans and loves his 14 year old Lab mix and still has time for another game or two. As Cindy says, he is her "super hero".  Since Don's retirement he has not slowed down! He has been seen helping Mike Whalen in the kitchen. Don helps with the purchasing of food and helping Cindy cook and serve on Taco Tuesdays! Don has helped with cleaning up the landscaping and even got poison ivy doing so. Don has purchased items for 50/50 raffles. He has helped with food baskets and the list goes on! Don, we appreciate all of you efforts and wish you best of luck on your new endeavor with the lodge and as our Loyal Knight! Thank you for all you do!

May 2022 Ron Marrs, our May Elk of the Month! Ron has not only been a member for many years but he also served as a Trustee from 2009-2014! For those who do not know, Ron is a Master Plumber, with that comes service calls at all hours of the day and night. Recently, Ron received a call, from our lodge, that faucet to the mop sink, in the kitchen, had broken and water was pouring out of the wall. Ron spent many hours fixing it. Ron has also fixed the drains behind the bar & plumbing problems in the bathrooms, all of this was done on his personal time and on his "dime". Several of our members have also asked Ron for his help with plumbing problems in their homes. Members like Ron are a good example of stepping up to help out our lodge and membership! Thank you, Ron, for all you do!!

June 2022 Pattie Rogers, our June Elk of the Month! Pattie is the Chairman of our Youth Activities and is constantly coming up with creative events and activities for the youth. She helped put together Easter Basket kits in April for the families of our food baskets. Pattie had a fun Mother's Day activity for the lodge breakfast and recently gathered tie-dye kits for the Youth Camp. Not only does Pattie come up with fun ideas for the kids, but she came up with the idea of " electronic ducky races" to earn monies for our different charities! Thank you, Pattie!

July 2022 Elk of the Month is Wendi Sack! Wendi is the proud mother of 4 boys, Ashtin, Colin, Giovanni and Vinny and is the wife to Pat! About 18 years ago, they had a major house fire and although they all escaped, their family dog wasn't so lucky. The community came together to help them with clothing and other basic necessities until the situation was handled. Since then, Wendi has made it her mission to help those in need.  She keeps a drop box outside her home where people drop of canned food, boxed food etc. She not only donates what she collects but she is a major contributor herself. She has been donating to Mobil Hope and Loudoun Hunger Relief, to name a couple charities.  She raised her boys to be mindful of those in need. The boys have a band, who played for us on Memorial Day a few years ago and they also host Karaoke shows for us in which they have not accepted payment for. Wendi truly bodies the "Elk Do" spirit with her positive attitude and charitable ways! We are grateful to have her as part of our Elk Family!

August 2022 Elk of the Month.is Mary Lou Marshall. She has been a member for approximately 14 years! Mary Lou has gone way above and beyond to help 2 of our members. Mary Lou has been the main person taking care of Monroe. She has scheduled ALL of his Dr appointments, taken him to most of them and has just been there for him! Mary Lou has also made it her mission to help out another one of our members, Jimmy Studz! Jimmy has been having severe back issues and Mary Lou has gone and checked on him and has brought him things, he needed, from the store. Mary Lou has really gone above and beyond her duties of an Elk. We thank you, Mary Lou!

September 2022 Elk of the Month.is Mike Sample. Mike sample is a behind the scenes member. he is an attorney, and has been our lodge’s presiding justice since 2020. He has helped many times with welcome home furniture pick ups and moves, just recently he helped with 3 moved within 1 week.

We would like to congratulate Kara Lynne Moreau for being our October Elk of the Month! Most of you know her for slinging your drinks but Kara does so much more for our lodge members and Veterans in our community! She is our Veterans chair and has helped with food, clothing and even rent for local veterans in need! She also runs our USO with Dulles and always ensures they are fully stocked. On top of all of that she is also our Membership chair, this year she reached out to all lapsed members and got our delinquent list to the lowest it's been in a long time!! With all this she still works the bar to ensure we are well taken care of, even when that calls for helping someone with clean up after an embarrassing situation. She handled it with humility and cleaned up the restrooms, which is not her job. Again handling a difficult  situation with the upmost care. It takes a lodge, but it also takes members who care! Thank you for all you do!

Congratulations to our November 2022 Elk of the Month, Monroe Kenney!

Since the inception of our Lodge providing a home cooked meal twice a year for the Honor Flights from Oregon, starting approximately 10 years ago, Monroe has handled the purchasing and preparation of meals for between 100 to 140 veterans and their guides with the assistance of a few other members. Due to Covid 19 the Honor Flight did not come to our Lodge in 2020 and 2021, and Monroe informed me that due to health issues, he would no longer be able to handle the Honor Flights. This year I informed Monroe that the Honor Flight was booked for October 1st, and we would welcome his help in any capacity that his health would allow. Through his declining health, Monroe still managed to handle all the duties that he had done in all of the years past, and prepared a  meal for 140 (with the assistance of a few other members), that everyone in the Honor Flight raved about how delicious the meal was and that coming to our Lodge is one of the highlights of their trip. I know how hard this was on Monroe, and our Lodge and I would like to thank him for all the effort he put into this event and all the things he has done for the Lodge throughout the years.

Congratulations again! We love our " Little Buddy"!

Congratulations to John Conversano, our December Elk of the Month! John has been a member for six years. John has served on our House Committee and as our Lecturing Knight. John is currently on our Membership Committee and has interviewed many of our new candidates! For our Thankful Thursday dinners, John brings in fresh fruit to compliment the dinner! John has also been part of Columbus Day parades, food baskets and any event that he could help with.

Those of you who know John, know that he has a passion for Halloween and this year, John went way above and beyond to turn our upstairs into a Haunted House. John spent a lot of time putting this together and we had almost 200 kids come through. John, we thank you for all you do! Congratulations!!
