Biography: Geoff Cox has played Latin, jazz, and R&B trombone and piano for most of his life in Washington, DC. He studied jazz under Professor Herb Smith in Northern Virginia, and then went on to study Big Band under the famous Bill Potts. After several years with the Bob Lewis Orchestra, Geoff joined his personal friend and big band principal Garry Henson to form the short-lived but popular Post-Nuclear Jazz Society big band and Constant Velocity combo. Geoff then entered the Latin scene with The Ambassador Band, La Nueva Tentacion', and Calidad. Geoff performed for 7 years with Danny Alexander's ¡Peligro!, Washington's most accomplished Latin band, as trombone soloist and musical arranger. Geoff has also been a member of Central Heat, the area's hottest R&B group. Currently, Geoff plays piano and trombone and arranges music for Swing Shift, Washington's premiere dance and concert big band, and the Geoff Cox Jazz Lab, a 5 piece jazz combo. Geoff also played tuba and arranged music for the Washington Redskins Marching Band for 18 years. | |
